There are some courses in finance which are recognized world over as the benchmarks to measure the suitability of the candidates for the finance jobs. One such exam is that of the Certified Financial Planning (CFP). The course is administered through a body in US, called Financial Planning Standards Board (FPSB), which is empowered to set up branches in different countries of the world. These branches have the authority to approve the institutes which offer this course in those countries subject to some specified rules and criteria.

The candidates willing to take up a career in financial planning shall first study through and command a list of about 100 topics of integrated financial management. These pertain to Insurance, Employee benefits, investment and securities planning, state and federal tax planning, retirement, estate and some other types of planning. The candidate is not required to have the bachelor’s degree for taking the first stage 10 hour multiple choice test.

After one clears the test, the candidate is required to show that he has an extensive experience in financial planning. For this purpose, the definition of ‘work experience’ is elaborately described by the Board guidelines. Apart from clear defining of the work experience, it is also mentioned in what all fields will the experienced be considered relevant. The candidates are required to have 2000 hours per year worth of experience in the financial planning field. A lot of emphasis is laid on the extensive checking of the background of the candidate: his character, criminal record and ethical conduct. These checks are done in the first certification stage itself.

In India, the CFP is designed as a certification program for the working executives. This course can be done as full-time classroom coaching or by the part-time method as well. This course can also be done by the distance education learning medium. Some of the institutes also use the online learning modules for the same. The experts also provide support and answers to the queries using the email method of problem solving. The answers are provided within the set time limits. The course of study in this exam is continually revised to keep it updated as per the latest requirements of the industry in the financial management sector.

The CFP course is especially useful for those who are willing to seek job opportunities abroad. This course gives a firm foothold on the overseas job opportunities in the finance sector. You can even be an independent financial advisor to the individuals and organizations to enable them to meet established financial management goals. The Certified Financial Planner can help them to find the best possible combination of investment avenues, marshal their resources in such a way that returns on investment are maximized or may even organize the flow of cash in such a way that all your commitments are fulfilled to the extent possible.

So, this course imparts you the ability to plan your investments with due expertise and knowledge. With so much diversification in the field of finance, the need of a professionally qualified CFP has grown even more important.
